Intercultural Health Certificate

The Intercultural Health Certificate represents a collaboration between the School of Liberal Arts, the IU School of Nursing, and the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health. Its purpose is to enhance the knowledge and clinical skills of nurses, public healthcare providers, and other health professionals by promoting an awareness of intercultural relationships. The four-semester program will provide a curriculum that incorporates language proficiency levels in tracks in Chinese (Mandarin), French, or Spanish at the 300 and 400 levels for undergraduates, combined with a focus on core nursing, public health, and other health science skills that include clinical laboratory and human patient simulation experiences in a bilingual setting. Must be a major in IU School of Nursing or School of Public Health to be admitted to this certificate.

The certificate in Intercultural Health will prepare students in health field areas to become leaders in the service of international and intercultural community members. The preparation includes cultural and linguistic skills, as well as exposure to local and global health issues. IU Indianapolis proposes this program due to a need for such providers in order to offer optimal healthcare to the immigrant and refugee populations.
